Seasonality in English Haiku
Seasonality in English Haiku
On Monday, September 21, Japan-America Society of Washington DC and the Embassy of Japan collaborated to bring together three well established American haiku writers to talk about writing haiku poems in English with seasonal themes. The panel consisted of Ms. Roberta Beary, who is honored around the world for her innovative and unconventional hybrid haiku. Also joining the panel was Mr. Jim Kacian, who is the owner Red Moon Press, the largest publisher of haiku and haiku-related books outside of Japan. Finally on the panel was Ms. Abigail Friedman, who is an award-winning haiku poet, and author of two haiku-related books.
The panelist will be judging this year's Haiku Contest. The contest submissions will be from September 22 to November 21. People of all ages and from around the world are able to submit entries. Winners will be announced at the end of November 2015.
Prizes include a guided tour of the tea house at the Embassy of Japan, free semester of language or cultural classes at JASW, cultural items and more.
